For my last reading blog I wanted to look into something that is very controversial and something that I have used in a number of my projects. That being Artificial Intelligence in art. Whether you like it or not, everyone has an opinion about AI art. With the majority of people thinking that it is not real art. Real art to me is a hard thing to define because people in energy generation have had problems with the new style of art for their time. Just like how some people do not like dada or modern art, the times will always change. The article I looked at had a pretty consistent thought process. That opinion was mostly people saw it as a threat, but it was still new and does not have the human emotion that can go into a piece of art. The article mentioned something that I had never thought of before and that was AI in music. It was mostly for compositional pieces in film, but still an interesting thought. The consensus was that it lacks emotion for films, that AI cannot recognize dramatic moments. In my work with AI I have definitely seen the lack of emotion and humanity that comes out of its generated images, but that does not mean it’s not art. It is awful art, but still something is trying to be expressed. AI should be a tool that we collaborate with to make better art. We should not be scared of its forthcoming, we should be stewards of it who welcome it with open arms and guide how it grows so it does not endanger the art community.
