Reading Blog 1

I found the “Glitch Studies Manifesto” interesting. Not just the reading itself, but the way the reading is formatted. The broken and angled text goes well with this reading as it looks like a glitch talking about glitch. It also just the way the pages are set up with huge gaps it reminds of the vintage Volkswagen Newspaper ads. Specifically how the “Think Small” ad uses up an entire page, but only has one small image of the car to get its point across. Using a visual element on normally a primarily literature focused medium. As seen in the image. One part I found especially interesting while getting into the reading was a quote on the beginning of page 4. “G e t away from the established action scripts and join the avant-garde of the unknown.”. I find this line somewhat ironic because the computer company “Apple” advertising has alway been labeled as avant garde, that you are different because you use an apple computer. Yet they are strict when programs deviate from their system. Apple is meant to be clean and smooth running. Not much room for glitches. The perspective of “Noise” being negative and positive intrigues me. It can exist as an understanding and voice of digital media, almost like a decoder. Then glitch as an interruption makes me think of a big gust of wind, everything is normal then in an instant everythings changes and gets blown away. Also the Shock and awe aspect, like a lightning strike, away from the normal functions of life, it draws your attention and can be beautiful.
